Last night the public broadcast channel (PBS) showed an expertly produced documentary of how the US economy began its meltdown. It was totally devoid of emotion and any recriminations; it was simply a statement of facts attested to by the major players in the debacle of the greatest economic system in the world. It was easy for anyone to see what really happened and what the President and Congress was bailing out. It was nobody's fault, except of course the Devil's. It's always the Devil who causes the greatest calamities in the world anyway, so we eventually find out. And why does the Devil do it? Why, because it's what he's about: thou shalt not have your cake and eat it too.
