Judeo Christian Culture?
Today, we are flirting with Judeo-Christian-Muslim Culture;
the US is being transformed into what is called an inter-faith,
generic, non-secular culture. Judeo-Christian at the time of Ronald
Reagan used to mean that Jews and Christians shared their belief in the
Old Testament Scriptures, with the Christians believing in the New
Testament Scriptures as well. There was no need to define modern
Judaism as a rejection of Christianity. It was an earlier version of
"don't ask, don't tell" philosophy to unite the American Christians and
the American Jews into one culture, the way this philosophy today
unites the heterosexuals and the homosexuals into one society.
However, with the advent of this new century, the paradigm is shifting.
We have a very popular candidate, Senator Barack Obama, who was raised
by essentially atheist parents; however, Barack Obama, the elder, was a Muslim.
The Senator's father was a Kenyan
Muslim who met the Senator's mother, a girl of Irish Catholic descent,
in a university in Hawaii. Ironically, they were both studying Russian.
For most students this was an indication of leftist leaning; at least
it was an indication of atheist feelings. According to a CNN
documentary on the Senator's upbringing, the parents of the couple were
opposed to their getting married. However, they did get married and the
Senator was born while his parents lived in Hawaii. Soon the Senator's
father left for studies at Harvard and subsequently the parents were
divorced, with the Senator's mother marrying an Indonesian Muslim and
moving with her son to Indonesia, where the future Senator went to both
a Catholic and a Muslim school for a while.
It wasn't until after Barack Obama graduated from Harvard University
that he was converted to Christianity by Pastor Jeremiah Wright in a
Black Chicago church. Now that Senator Obama is running for President,
he resents being identified with his legal name, Barack Hussein Obama.
Hussein sounds like a Muslim name, which it is; however, Barack is also
a Muslim name, while Obama is an African name. Senator Obama professes
that he is a Christian, and it is only fair that he be accepted as a
Christian on the basis of that declaration of a Christian Confession.
With Senator Barack Obama the US has entered into a new era of history
when an Islamic upbringing is not a detriment to candidacy for the
highest office in the US government. This is in stark contrast to the
times of Senator John Kennedy, the first Catholic President in the
history of the United States of America. There was a big controversy at
the time of his nomination. Senator John Kennedy had to profess that
his Catholicism would not mean that as President of the United States
he would be under the influence of the Pope.
This is why today we have to admit that there is a paradigm shift in
American Society; we have now a Christian-Jewish-Muslim Culture.
Moreover, the two US Parties, the Democrats and the Republicans, have
adopted the policy of not mentioning the name of Jesus in their
campaigns. The name of Jesus was not mentioned during the two
Conventions and no one is talking about their faith in Jesus during the
campaigns, even though all four candidates for President and
Vice-President are Christians.
Now that Governor Sarah Palin is under attack by the media for having
attended a Pentecostal Church when she was young, the American voters
are being told that it is detrimental for a candidate to be too closely
associated with any particular church. The sentiment of the voters is
toward a more generic view of religion. The candidates should not be
overly Christian, otherwise the media will bring up the question of
religious influence in their styles of governing and over their
handling of social issues, for example, if a candidate is pro-life or
pro-choice.
The issues that a President has to deal with are not to be affected by
any religion in this new age. Thus morality is no longer an issue, only
secular values based on socio-economic principles are to be paramount.
With the doctrine of "separation of church and state" in place, there
is no need to discuss religion in the application of law. Thus a
Judeo-Christian-Muslim Culture means a culture without religious
values. This means also that people can no longer discuss their
religious preferences publicly. Religion should be a private affair.
The US is now, therefore, ready to fight for the privacy of its
citizens' religious choice but not for the freedom to practice the
religion of their choice.
From a Judeo-Christian Culture to a Judeo-Christian-Muslim Culture, we
have gone from an agreement on faith to an agreement on non-faith,
because Christianity and Judaism agree on the Old Testament, but Islam
does not share with these two monotheistic religions any part of the
Scriptures. The Islamic Quran is completely different; therefore, there
is no possibility of agreement on a moral code for American Society. We
must now live and die as a secular society. Thus the atheists have won.
