Compassionate Humanism
Speeches are great (sometimes they even work), but actions are more in line with the needs of a country that has been attacked by Muslim terrorists from outside and God-haters from inside. So Obama has finally decided to make his mark on the Presidency, and he could not have picked a better issue than healthcare for those Americans that cannot afford it, with or without insurance. Obama's mother had insurance but when she got cancer the insurance company tried to renege on the policy she had paid for and provide her with the treatment under their coverage. Obama said in his campaign speeches more than once that he did not want to see that happen to another American. Nobody told Obama that a President cannot do anything like that for any US citizen; the role of the President does not grant him that power; but Obama is different from other Presidents. Obama carries the votes of a new generation of Americans who believe that Obama can do it. And so here he is wrangling a deal through a Democratic Congress and perhaps some health plan that will right the wrongs done to cancer patients and others in dire need of medical care. Regardless of the cost of universal healthcare, Obama is looking for a way to do it and set precedence, so that no American should ever have to be denied healthcare on the basis of his status or financial worth.
