A Free Thinker's Web Log

All we have is this freedom, which does carry with it some responsibility. As long as we don't impinge on someone else's freedom, we can express ourselves freely. This blog will serve as my blogger journal. I try to stay open to ideas. I don't think there's anything wrong with changing one's mind, but there have to be some fundamental beliefs that remain true.

Terri's Final Days on Earth

Who is this woman that the whole world is watching her die?

I think it's God's way of teaching us something about life and death.

According to 20th Century science, most people use only ten percent of their brains. Terri has twenty percent of her brain still intact and functioning. True, those parts of her brain that perform the many tasks that people up and about perform have atrophied. But Terri doesn't need those parts anyway. She has the necessary parts for her own existence.

Terri doesn't belong to anyone anymore; she belongs to America and to the world. She's a symbol of what the battle against atheism is all about. However, the atheists are silent, because they're afraid of exposing their true colors when it comes to one person's struggle to stay alive, especially when that individual is a believer. Thank God, finally, Terri received Holy Communion on Easter. The judges in Florida didn't oppose it, although they'd ruled against it.

Whether Terri lives and dies has become a huge national issue. Politicians are wary of it, and there is no clear partisan line to stand on, because the issue has nothing to do with man's law. No crime has been committed. Terri is fighting for her life and the only reason she's not being allowed to live is that she only has twenty percent of her brain intact. So then it's a scientific issue.

Well, according to science, Terri is not a fully functioning human being, but not according to God. Terri's spirit is functioning one hundred percent, but atheists don't believe in the spirit. 20th Century science is atheist, and we're ruled by 20th Century mentality, even though we're living in the 21st Century.

If God doesn't exist, there are no moral issues to consider. The law says that Terri's fate is decided by her legal guardian, who is her husband, even though he has a relationship with another woman and two children. Terri has been in this state for fifteen years, but her husband has not divorced her, but this doesn't matter anymore. Terri belongs to herself now. She's an individual.

According to 20th Century science and atheism, it's the human brain that determines that God must exist, because of it's sophistication the human brain can reflect about it's own existence and the existence of the world. The human being is considered the only animal that can reflect internally and marvel, shall we say for brevity's sake, at his own intelligence.

It's interesting that the courts have ordered that an autopsy is to be performed after Terri's death to determine the condition of her brain's injury. The autopsy may find that she has twenty percent of her brain is still intact, more or less, but the autopsy won't be able to determine if Terri has a spirit. Her spirit will have gone out of her body after she dies. And that's where 20th Century science comes to an end.

However, if God does exist, and I believe He does, then Terri's death suggests that the US justice system is not under God.

This is something for the American people to decide: are we still "one nation under God"?
