One of the greatest
benefits of the Scriptures is that every generation needs not make the
same mistakes of their predecessors. You might say, yes, that is the
purpose of secular education also; but no, this is not the case,
because secular education does not teach the knowledge of the
Scriptures. Instead, secular education teaches the students of modern
universities that you shall learn how to do your own research,
experimenting, and arriving at your own conclusions, based on your own
personal observations; in other words, learn everything from scratch --
re-invent the wheel.
The benefit of the Scriptures are thus to grow from the knowledge of
God's providence and grace, to attain the tools of survival for every
generation, according to the circumstances and events in each age. The
Holy Spirit reveals the new knowledge and allows for wholesome growth,
based on the same old values nurtured by the previous generation of
believers.
