Isaiah 58

1. "Growl and do not relent, and raise your voice like a horn,
and show my people their abomination and the House of Jacob their sins.
2. "And it is me that they seek everyday and wish to know my ways,
like a great nation that performs righteousness
and neglects not the commandments* of its Allaha;*
3. "'Why did I fast but see nothing?*
And humble ourselves* and get nothing out of it?'
Behold, on a day of your fasting you did as you pleased
and you made offerings to all your idols.
4. "Behold, you fast during [periods of] strife and contention,
but* when engaged in your compulsion to perform the abominable*
you do not fast as you do everyday,
and make your voice heard in the highest.
5. "Is this the fast that I chose?
That a man should punish* himself? And lower his neck like a hook?
And that he should cover* himself in sackcloth and ashes?
Is this what you call fasting and the day that Maryah* desires?
6. "This is the task that I chose,
to untie the knot of abomination,
to cut the ties of treachery,
and to release the prisoners to freedom,
and all the bonds are to be cut off.
7. And [this is the fast that I chose]
that you break your bread for the hungry
and bring the stranger into your home,
as you notice that he is naked and you clothe him,
and you do not consider him [less worthy] than your own son,
your own flesh.
8. "Then your light [of day] shall arrive* like the dawn
and your righteousness shall arise [in the East] quickly;
and righteousness shall go before you,
and Maryah* shall answer you -- and implore,
and He shall say, 'Behold, [here] I am;
if treachery leaves your midst and the captured are released,
and you distance yourself from lying words,
10. "'And [if] you give your bread to the hungry
and satisfy the breath of the starved,
[then] your light will shine in the darkness
and your darkness shall be like midday.'"
11. Then surely Maryah* shall fetch you and satisfy your soul with riches,*
and He shall loosen your bones,
and you shall be like the paradise of the drunk,
and like a spring of waters that do not stop flowing.
12. And some of yours shall rebuild the ruins from eternity,*
and the foundations of many generations* shall be raised,
and they shall call you the healer of rifts
and [the one] who restores* the settlements.
13. If you reverse your walk on the Sabbath,*
that you should not do as you please on my hallowed day
and that you shall call the Sabbath wonderful*
and the [day] blessed by Maryah*
and that you honor* it and do not follow* your own desires,*
and that you do not do your own will and speak your own mind."
14. Then your reliance shall be upon Maryah,*
who will have you ride upon the earth's bounty
and feed you the inheritance of Jacob, your father,
because it is the mouth of Maryah* that has spoken.
