| If we could only convince the Muslim World to become
secular in its approach to political issues, we may succeed in averting
more catastrophes like 9-11. In fact we are so convinced of this that we
have willingly become secular ourselves in the West. We are now pursuing
secular Christianity throughout the Western World, in anticipation of this
new age of secularism.
But before we push secularism on Islam, let us define what this means to us Christians. Yes, we have pretty much adopted Secular Christianity in the US. It is ironic that we have a President today who is anything but a secular Christian. He is, in my opinion and in the opinion of millions of Americans, a personal Christian. I sincerely think that this is a wonderful quality for an American President to have. I consider myself fortunate to be living in the US during his twin terms in this century. He may be the last Christian President of this century who so openly credits Jesus Christ with all his blessings and the blessings of this country. Having said all that about this President, the writing is, nevertheless, on the wall regarding what the future of the Executive Branch is heading toward. And it is not just the Executive Branch. The Supreme Court will soon present vacancies which might be filled by non Christian justices. In fact, the President is being warned against presenting openly Christian nominees for the position of Supreme Court Justice. Why is that? Why are Christians out of favor? I believe, it has to do with the Supreme Court decisions that have gone against the Bible during the tenure of this supposedly conservative court. The false doctrine of the "separation of church and state" was upheld by this court. The no-prayer in public schools was upheld by this court, even though President Ronald Reagan called for it in his State of the Union messages. Recently the Ten Commandments were cast out of a public building in Virginia. There have been many anti-Biblical decisions by this court, and this, I repeat, is considered a conservative court. What does conservative mean? I think, the Republican Party should redefine the term to its constituents before the Democrats claim to be conservatives also. Already, there is talk of Conservative Democrats. What I foresee is that a non-Personal Christian Republican candidate for the Presidency being defeated by a Bible-quoting Democratic candidate. During the last presidential campaign, albeit a little too late, even Senator John Kerry began to quote the Scriptures and talked of his days as an Altar Boy. I think it is conceivable that a Democratic candidate may win using the Bible and posing as a Christian. Well, posing as a Christian might seem harsh. I mean, after all, what does it take to be a Christian? This brings me to what we are beginning to see as a phenomenon in US politics, namely Secular Christianity. This might at first seem like a contradiction but it really is not. President Carter was quoted as saying something to the affect that "I leave Christianity out when I enter the Oval Office." It is the same with Western Christianity, when the ministry is a job and priesthood is a way of making a living. What is Secular Christianity? We want all the benefits of the Bible and its values, but we do not want to admit its authority or mention it openly. We want children to behave at school, but we do not want them to even say a generic prayer recognizing God in their lives. We want people not to kill or steal, but we do not want to recognize the place of the Ten Commandments in the courts. Secularism is a new panacea. We want secular religion, namely all the benefits of moral values without having to deal with God's reality. Therefore, we want to secularize all religions and social orders. Secular Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and the rest, all become a form of agnosticism. Secular socialism, fascism, capitalism, democracy, and the rest, all become a form of humanism. Even secular humanism, secular media, arts, and the rest of it, all become oxymorons. In the end, secularism is a fancy term for atheism, and the new age of secularism is nothing more than a passing phenomenon. It will play its miserable role in the rejection of true Christianity and amount to naught. The effect on true Christianity, however, is real. Christians must struggle everywhere until this age passes into oblivion also. |
