Paul's Letter to the Hebrews
Hebrews 1
1. God spoke to our ancestors in every way, shape and form*
through the prophets of old,* and in these last days,* He spoke to us
through His Son,
2. To Whom was consecrated the inheritance to everything, and
by Whom He created the universes,
3. "So as they may be the yeast of His [Son's] glory
... and in the image of His existence,
And that he may muster all of them
... by the power of His Manifestation,
And it was with that Essence of His Trinity
... that He cleansed our sins,
He Who sits from the right of the Supreme throne in the
Highest."
4. And all this is greater than the angels, according to that
greatness inherited in the name He received* from them.
5. For when did God ever speak of any angels as:
"You are my Son,
... My eternal genesis,"*
And again:
"I shall be a Father to Him
... and He shall be a Son to Me."
6. Again, however, when the Bread of Life entered the
universe, He said,
"All the angels of God shall worship Him."
7. Regarding the angels, He said thus,
"He made His angels into spirits
... and His servants into a burning light."
8. Regarding the Son He said,
"The throne is Yours,
... God to the end of the universe, of
all the universes.
Your rod is fair,
... the rod of your Kingdom.
9. "You have mercy on the righteous
... and hate the abominable.
Because of that God has anointed your
Godhead
... the Anointing of joy greater than your
companions."*
10. And again,
"You consecrated* the earth's foundations
... from the beginning of creation,
And the heavens You made with your hands.
11. "All these shall pass away,
... yet You shall remain,
And they shall all wear out like fine clothes,
12. "... And like a hat You will bend them.
They will change,
... but you will remain as You are,
And the years will not age* you."
13. To which of the angels did He then ever say,
"Sit from my right
... until I consecrate your enemies
As a rug under your feet"?
14. Alas, were they not all spirits of ministry sent
to serve those who were destined to inherit the everlasting life?
*1:1.1 Literal Aramaic (Lit. Ar.) expression: "By sample
and example."
*1:1.2 Lit. Ar. id.: Or: "Of the Old Testament."
*1:1.3 Lit. Ar. idiomatic expression retained: "Recent
times."
*1:4 Lit. Ar. idiomatic figure of speech:
"Inherited."
*1:5 Lit. Ar. idiomatic construction: "That my Son You
Are, I daily beget You."
*1:9 Lit. Ar. idiomatic construction: "Because of that
anointed God Your God the anointing of happiness greater than your
friends."
*1:10 Lit. Ar. idiomatic figure of speech retained:
"Designated."
*1:12 Lit. Ar. id.: "Shrink," "develop,"
or "evolve."
Hebrews 2
1. Because of that we are responsible to be more alert
regarding what we have heard, so as not to fall [from grace.]
2. For if the Manifestation announced by the angels was
confirmed, and whoever heard it ignored it received their recompense grudgingly,
3. How can we escape if we denigrate the everlasting life? For
[the angels] that began with the announcement about our Lord and of those things
that they heard from Him, also confirmed them to us,
4. As God testified regarding them through signs and wonders
and by the transforming power and by the distribution of the holy Spirit, that
was given according to His will.
5. It was not so that the world should worship the angels that
we were destined to speak regarding Him, therefore,
6. Except as the Scripture testifies, saying,
"Who is man that You should have remembered him,
For whom the Son of Man should have been condemned?"*
7. "What angels can even approach Him even a little,
Glory and honor You consecrated on His head,
And You gave Him authority by the work of Your own hands,
8. "And everything You made to worship under His feet.
So as everything should worship Him,
There would be none left that would not worship Him."
9. He is, then, very little like the angels, for we have seen
that He is Jesus because of the Passion of His death, and the glory and honor
that was consecrated on His head is, therefore, imposed by God in tasting death
on behalf of every human being.
10. For it was providential that to Whom everything was given
and for Whom all was made, that He should allow in many children to His glory,
that they should cherish the Lord of their Salvation through His Passion.*
11. For He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all
from the same One. Because of that He is not embarrassed to call them brothers
and sisters,*
12. As He said,
"I shall preach your name to my brothers and sisters,
And in the midst of the Church I shall glorify you."
13. And again,
"Myself and the children that are given to me by
God."
14. For as the children partake in His flesh and blood, so
also He shall make God* a partaker in their death through Him, so as He shall
annihilate through death the one who has sole authority over death, that being
Satan,
15. And so as He may release those who, being under submission
to death all their lives, worshipped through their works.
16. For He did not descend from the angels, except of the seed
of Abraham.*
17. It was because of that He was sanctified, that He may
resemble His brothers and sisters in every way, so that He may be master of the
king priests, those who are of God's faith, and that He may obliterate the sins
of the nation.
18. For in that He Sorrowed and was tempted, He was able to
help those who fell under temptation.
*2:6 Lit. Ar. poetic construction: "Who is the man that
You remembered and the Son of Man that You pledged?"
*2:10 Lit. Ar. idiomatic construction: "To the head of
their [eternal] Life by Sorrow to preserve."
*2:11 Lit. Ar. id.: "Brethren."
*2:14 Lit. Ar. idiomatic construction: "Him."
*2:16.1 Lit. Ar. idiomatic construction: "For it was not
from the angels that He planted, except from the seed of Abraham that He
planted."
Hebrews 3
1. Henceforth, my holy brothers and sisters, who were called
to the Calling from heaven, who saw this great Apostle and head of the king
priests of our glorious faith, Jesus Christ,*
2. Who had the Faith in Whom appointed Him like a Moses in all
His house.
3. For His glory is greater than that of Moses, whereas the
children of the house's honor is greater than the house.
4. For every house is built by the human being. He who builds
everything is God, however.
5. And Moses, like the servant, believed in the whole building
for the sake of the testimony of all those who spoke on his behalf.*
6. Christ then is like a child in His own house,* and we shall
be his household, if we carry on to the very end, openly declaring Him and proud
of the Hope [in His Kingdom.]*
7. Because the holy Spirit has said it,
8. "Do not harden your hearts to His anger,
As in the murmurings and the day of temptation in the
wilderness,
9. "For they tested me, your ancestors,
And remained and saw my works for forty years.
10. "That is why I held them to task in that
age,* and said,
'These are a people that have lost their hearts,
And know not my ways.'
11. "As I swore in my anger not to allow them into my
haven.*"
12. Thus be on guard, brethren, so as no human being among you
may have an unbelieving, wicked heart that avoids the Living God.
13. Except search your souls all your days, until the day of
days,* so as none* of you becomes hardened in the oblivion of sin.
14. For we have become sewn with Christ, if from the beginning
until the end, we are leavened in the Resurrection through Him,
15. Whereas He has said,
"If you listen to the echo of His voice daily,
Your hearts will not become hardened toward His anger."
16. For of those who heard Him and angered Him, were they not
all from those that came out from Egypt with Moses?
17. And did He not hold them to task for forty years, except
there were those who persisted in sin and whose bones lie in the
wilderness.
18. And was it not against them whom He swore that they would
not enter into His haven, or was it against those that did not adhere?
19. However, we saw that [the former] could not enter because
they did not believe.*
*3:1 Paul re-introduces a five thousand year old title for the
highest level of priesthood, the king priest. The first one recorded in history
was Hammurabi, over two thousand years BC. His name means "king-priest
rabbi".
*3:5 Lit. Ar. idiomatic expression: "Who spoke by his
hand."
*3:6.1 Lit. Ar. idiomatic expression: "Son over his own
house," or same as "daughter over her own house," signifying the
familiarity of children in their own home.
*3:6.2 Lit. Ar. idiomatic construction: "Maintain to the
very end, in revealed faces and proud in the Hope."
*3:10 Lit. Ar. idiomatic figure of speech:
"Century."
*3:11 Lit. Ar. idiomatic figure of speech: "Rest."
*3:13 Lit. Ar. id.: "No human [being.]"
* From verse 12 through verse 19, Paul clarifies the
difference between those who are sorely tested and those who slip toward the
irretrievable -- without making the final judgment himself.
Hebrews 4
1. We should be in such submission then, lest not, as there
arises the moment to enter His Haven of Peace, that there may be found a human
being among you who fails to enter.
2. For we also anticipated the Hope [of the Kingdom,] like
them, except the Manifestation had no affect on those who heard it, because they
did not adhere to the faith of those who obeyed.
3. Then we shall enter into the Haven of Peace, those of us
who believe . Whereas He said,
"As I swore in my anger that they will not enter in to
my haven,"
for, behold, the acts of God were from the beginning of the
universe.
4. As He said regarding the Sabbath,
"God rested from all His labors on the seventh
day."
5. And, therefore, He said again that they will not enter into
my haven of rest.
6. Because of that there was a certain type of people* that
did enter, and those who had the hope in the first place did not enter until
they adhered also,
7. Then again He consecrated another Day after many a season,
whence whoever entered, David said regarding them,
"If you obey His voice everyday,
Your hearts will not become hardened."
8. For if then Jesus were to give them rest after He had
called it, He would not have said that there would be another Day.
9. Therefore, He rose to be the Sabbath for the nation of God.
10. For if He had entered into His haven of rest, He would
have also rested from His works, just as God did from His.
11. Strive then to enter in such a way into that haven, so as
not to fail like those that did not adhere.
12. For the Manifestation of God is alive and Supreme over
all, and sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the point of
differentiating between the soul and the Spirit, joints, brain and bone, and He
judges the intentions of the heart and conscience.
13. And there is no creature that lies hidden before Him,
except everything lies naked and exposed before His eyes; to Him we must all
answer.
14. Because we have such a King Priest as Lord and Master,
Jesus Christ the Son of God, who rose to heaven, that we are leavened through
His Celebration.
15. For we have not such a King Priest who is unable to
empathize* with our afflictions, except one Who was tested by everything, like
us, that He was able to conquer sin.
16. Let us, therefore, approach His throne of Grace with open
eyes and receive mercy and find grace to aid us in the season of tribulation.
*4:6 Lit. Ar. idiomatic figure of speech: "Human,
human."
*4:15 Lit. Ar. idiomatic figure of speech: "Sorrow
with."
Hebrews 5
1. For every king priest who is from humanity, rises on behalf
of humanity regarding those matters that are of God, so as to make offerings and
sacrifices on behalf of their sins,
2. However if he were able to lay down his life* and take on the
sorrows* of those that know nothing and who are lost, for he is also bound by
the same afflictions.*
3. And because of [these afflictions,] he is responsible, and
whereas on behalf of the nation, likewise on his own behalf, he makes offerings
for the sake of his own sins.
4. And it was not for himself that a human being received
honor, except for the sake of God's calling, such as Aaron.
5. Likewise, even Christ did not glorify Himself so as to
become the Lord of the king priests, except to the One who said,
"You are my Son, my eternal Genesis,"
6. Just as He said elsewhere,
"You are that eternal King Priest of the universe,
in the likeness of the Righteous King.*"
7. Even though only in the flesh* He prayed and sought divine
favor, and with tears He called on the One who would raise Him from the dead, He
nevertheless obeyed.*
8. And as He was the blessed Son, He learned obedience from
His submission and perfecting sorrows,
9. And thus He matured and became, for all those who obeyed
Him, the source of eternal life,*
10. And He became exalted by God as the "Master and Lord
of the King Priests, in the likeness of the Righteous King."
11. Regarding Him, however, this Righteous King, His
Manifestation* overwhelms us and it is difficult for us to explain, because your
understanding is impaired.*
12. For you have been designated teachers since the season has
obliged you to be so. Now, however, you are in need of learning yourselves those
very early Scriptures that presented God's first words, and so you are in need
of milk again and not solid food.
13. Any human being whose food is still milk is not allowed to
taste the Manifestation of Righteousness, because they are still babes.
14. The true food then is for the disciplined, that for which
they are schooled, so that their sensibility can break through* and distinguish
between good and evil.
*5:2.1 Lit. Ar. id.: "Sleep."
*5:2.2 Lit. Ar. id.: Or: "empathize."
*5:2.3 Lit. Ar. idiomatic expression: "Attired by
affliction."
*5:6 Lit. Aramaic title: Melchizedek."
*5:7.1 Lit. Ar. idiomatic expression: "Wore flesh."
*5:7.2 Lit. Ar. idiomatic figure of speech: "Listened
to," or "complied."
*5:9 Lit. Ar. idiomatic expression: "Lives to the end of
the universe."
*5:11.1 Lit. Ar. idiomatic construction: "His death on
the Cross."
*5:11.2 Lit. Ar. idiomatic expression: "Your hearing is
afflicted."
*5:14 Lit. Ar. idiomatic expression: "Their perception
emerge."
Hebrews 6
1. That is why we left the beginning of Christ's Manifestation
[in Scriptures,] and came forth to the Fulfillment,*
or what then, are you going to raise another edifice to the grace of God from
dead works and [some other] faith in God?
2. Or some other knowledge of baptism and the laying of hands
or the resurrection from the dead and the judgment of the universe?
3. If the Lord allowed it,* it would be so.
4. Except they cannot rest on baptism for one time and receive
the gift from heaven and receive the holy Spirit,
5. And taste the Manifestation of grace from God and the power
of eternity* to come,
6. And then again commit sin, so as they may be renewed in
grace from the beginning, and again crucify the Son of God from the beginning
and re-enter the covenant.
7. For the earth that drinks in the rains that fall on it many
a season, and supplies the medicinal herb that is beneficial for whom it was
cultivated, shall indeed receive the blessing of God.
8. If, however, it produces thorns and thistles, not only is
it denigrated and nearly cursed, but in the end what it yields is suitable only
for burning.
9. Therefore, we commend you, brethren, to those beautiful and
harmonious acts that lead to eternal life, even though we speak in this way.
10. For God did not do the abominable by losing sight of your
works and your love that you showed to His name, that you ministered to the
saints and that you are still ministering.
11. We wish you , then, that each one of you should show this
maximum effort until the end,
12. And that you should not be curtailed, except that you may
uphold those who through faith and the outpouring of Spirit become heirs of the
Kingdom.
13. For as God bequeathed [the Kingdom] to Abraham, because He
had no greater than Himself to swear by, He swore by Himself,
14. And He said, "As for blessings, I shall bless you and
as for increasing your numbers, I shall multiply you."
15. And He thus bestowed His Spirit, and [Abraham] received
the Kingdom.
16. For human beings swear by someone greater than themselves,
and when things go wrong between them, they settle them finally by oaths.
17. Because of that God wished to moreover show the heirs of
the Kingdom that His declaration was unchanging and He imbued it with oaths,
18. So as with two immutable Expressions of Will,* through
Whom God cannot be falsified, that our hearts may be greatly uplifted, so as we
may abide completely in Him and partake of the Hope of the Kingdom bestowed on
us.
19. He Who is our anchor, sinking into our soul so it will not
be shaken, and Who enters past the façade of the door,*
20. As He presented Jesus on our behalf, and He became the
eternal* King Priest in the likeness of the Righteous King.
*6:1 Lit. Ar. id.: "Realization" or
"Materialization."
*6:3 Lit. Ar. idiomatic expression: "We would do
it."
*6:5 Lit. Ar. id.: "The universe."
*6:18 Manifestation of the Trinity.
*6:19 Lit. Ar. idiomatic expression: "Inside from the
faces of the door."
*6:20 Lit. Ar. id.: "To the end of the universe."
