John Fifteen

1. "I am the true Vine
and my Father is the Worker.
2. "Whichever branch
that does not produce* fruit by me,
He cuts* it off.
And the one that produces fruit,
He prunes* it,
so that it brings* much fruit.
3. "You are already* cleansed,
because of the manifestation
I presented* you.
4. "Graft* yourselves onto me
And I onto you,
for the branch cannot bring* fruit by* itself,
If it is not grafted* to the vine;
likewise you also,
If you do not adhere to me.
5. "I am the vine and you are the branches.
Whoever adheres to me and I to them,
they shall bring much fruit.
Because without me,
you cannot do anything.
6. "For if a person* does not adhere to me,
they are cast out.
Like a branch that withers,
[which] they cut off and throw into the fire to burn.
7. "And for those of you who adhere to me
and my words take hold* in you,
Whatever you wish* to ask for,
you shall have.
8. "By this the Father is glorified,
that you bear* plentiful fruit.
And that you become my disciples.
9. "Just as my Father has loved me,
I too shall love you.
Nourish* [yourselves] with my love*
10. "If you observe* my commandments,
you will be nourished* by my love [;]
Just as I guarded
the commandments of my Father
And have become strengthened by His love.
11. "I gave you these words
So that my happiness
is [expressed] through you
And that happiness
becomes* your happiness as well.
12. "This then is my commandment,
that you love one another* [;]
Just as I loved you.
13. "There is no greater love than this,
That a person* sacrifices* himself
for his kinsmen.*
14. "You are my relatives*,
if you do everything I tell* you.
15. "From the beginning
I did not call you servants*
Because the servants
do not know what the master does;
I called you relatives*,
because everything I heard from my Father
I made known to you.
16. "It was not you who chose me,
except it was I who chose you
And invited* you,
so that you should also go and bring fruits,
And that your fruits be continuous.*
So that whatever you ask of my Father in my name,
He shall give you.
17. "This I command you,
That you love one another.
18. "And if the world* hates you,
Remember* that they hated me first.
19. "And if you were of the world,
Then] the world would have been kind to me.
Except you are not of this world.
But because I chose you
[out] from this world,
The world hates you.
20. "Be cognizant
Of the manifestation I expressed to you,
that there is no servant* greater than his master.
If they throw me out,
they will throw you out.
And if they recognize* my manifestation,
they will recognize* you also.
21. "Except they do all these [things] to you
because of my name,
[Because] they do not recognize Whom sent me.
22. "But if I had not come
To manifest myself to them,
they would not have had sin.
But now they have no excuse for* their sins.
23. "Whoever hates me,
Also hates my Father.
24. "And if I had not performed
The works in response [to that,]
those that no one* has [ever] done,
They would have no sin.
But now [I have,]
And they have seen
and have [still] hated me as well as my Father.
25. "So that my manifestation is fulfilled,
as is written in their law,
That, 'They hated me for nothing!*'
26. "But when the Advocate comes,
Whom I shall send to you from my Father,
the Spirit of Truth
Who emerges from my Father,
He shall testify on my behalf.
27. "Also you shall testify,
that from the beginning
You have been with me.

1. "These [things] I told* you
so that you will not be confused.*
2. "For they will throw you out of their synagogues,
and the hour will come that whoever kills you
presumes that they are making an offering to God.
3. "And these [things] they do
because they do not know [anything,]
And neither [do they know] my Father or me.
4. "These [things] I made known* to you
so that whatever happens at those times,
That you will remember [and] understand
that I told you so.
From the beginning
I did not tell you of these [times,]
For I was with you then.
5. "Now that I am [about] to go [back]
To Whom sent me,
and not one* of you is asking me,
ëWhere are you going?'
6. "[Then] I told you these [things] and suddenly*
your hearts are full!
7. "But I am telling you the truth,
it will benefit you that I am going.
For if I do not go,
the Advocate will not come to you.
For when I go,
I will send Him to you.
8. "And when He comes,
He shall instruct the people* on sin,
Righteousness and judgment* [;]
9. "On sin,
since they did not believe in me [;]
10. "On righteousness,
since, as I go to my Father,
And you will not see me again [;]
11. "On judgment,
Since the leader of the world* here, was judged.
12. "Again, I have much to tell you,
except you cannot take it all in now.
13. "But when the Spirit of Truth comes,
He* will provide you with all the truth,
Not that He speaks of his own self [;]*
except He speaks [only*] what He hears,
Revealing to you the forthcoming [events.]*
14. "And He glorifies me,
since He manifests* what is mine
and reveals* it to you.
15. "Whatever my Father has is mine.
That is why I said to you
That he manifests what is mine
and reveals it to you.
16. "Soon* you will not see me
and a little later*
And you will see me,
as I will go to my Father."

17. And the disciples said one to another*, "What is this that he told us,
that ëSoon you will not see me and a little later and you will see me,' and
that, ëI will go to my Father?' "
18. And they said, "What is this ësoon' he talks about? We do not
understand what he is saying."
19. But Jesus knew they wanted to question him, and he said to them,
"Do you want me to tell you altogether about this, that soon you will not
see me and a little later and you will see me?

20. "Amen, amen, I am telling you,
that you will weep and wail,
And the world* will rejoice,
and for you a memorial,
Except your requiem will be a celebration*.
21. "When a woman gives birth,
She is anxious for the day of birth to arrive,
and when she gives birth to the child*
She does not [long] remember* the pain,
because of the joy
Of bringing* a human being into the world.
22. "Also, you too are anxious now.
So you can see me again
and [that] your heart should rejoice
And your joy no one* should [be able to]
take* away from you.
23. "And on that day
you will not ask me anything.
Amen, amen, I am telling you,
that whatever you ask of my Father in my name,
You shall receive.
24. "Even though until now
You have not asked anything in my name.
Ask and be assured* that your joy shall be complete.
25. "Until now I have spoken to you figuratively.
There will come a time
When I shall no longer
speak with you figuratively,
Except that [is when] I shall introduce you
openly* to the Father.
26. "On that day [when] you ask in my name,
and I will no longer say to you
That I am asking the Father [on your behalf,]
27. "For the Father himself
Shall have mercy on you,
since you were merciful to me,
And you shall [also] believe
that I have emerged from the Father.
28. "I emerged from the Father
and came to the world*,
And again I leave the world
and I go [on my way*] to the Father."

29. His disciples told him, "Behold, now you are speaking openly*, and
not one figurative [word] did you use*
30. "Now we know that you know everything. And you need no one* to
ask you. By this we believe that you have come* from God."
31. Jesus told them,

"Do believe [it,]
32. "That, behold, the hour will come,
And [indeed] it has now arrived,
that you will scatter out,
Each man to his land*,
and you will leave me by myself,
And not that I am alone
[for] the Father is with me.
33. "These [things] I am telling you,
that through me you have peace.
In the world you will be persecuted .
Except take heart*,
I have conquered the world!"

1. These [things] Jesus spoke, and he raised his eyes to heaven and said,

2. "Whereas you have given him power* over all flesh,
So that whomever you give
shall attain Life eternal*.
3. "This then is eternal Life,
that they shall know you to be
The God of Truth,
infinitely supreme*,
(And) who sent Jesus Christ.
4. "I glorified you on earth.
The work that you gave me to do,
I have been faithful to.
5. "And now you are glorifying me,
[my] Father, in your presence,
By the glory that I had with you
before the inception* of the universe.
6. "I have made your name known
to mankind,
The ones you gave me
from the world.
They were yours
and you gave them to me
And they honored* your manifestation.
7. "Now they know
That everything you gave me
was from you[,]
8. "That the words you gave me,
[also] came from you.*
And they received and understood truly
that I emerged from you,
And they believed that you sent me.
9. "And I wanted* them
And it was not the world that I wanted,
except these that you gave me, these that are yours.
10. "And everything that is mine is yours[,]
and yours is mine
And We have been glorified by them.
11. "And from now on
I will not be among the people*
and [yet] these will be among the people.
And [as] I come to you, Holy Father,
protect them by your name,
That which you gave me[;]
so that they may be one, just like Us.
12. "As I was with them in the world,
I protected them by your name.
These whom you gave me I protected.
And not one* of them was lost*,
Except the son of destruction*,
that came to finish [the prophesy of] the Scripture.
13. "Now that I am coming to you
and these [things] I have spoken among the people*,
So that my joy may be fulfilled in them.
14. "I gave them your manifestation*
And the world* hated them,
for they were not from the world,
Just as I am not of the world.
15. "It was not that I wanted you
To take them out of the world,
except to protect them against the evil one.
16. "For they were not of the world,
just as I was not of the world.
17. "Father, bless them with your Truth,
for your manifestation is the Truth.
18. "Just as you sent me into the world,
I too sent them into the world.
19. "And in their sight*
I shall glorify myself,
So that they too
shall be glorified by the truth.
20. "And it was not for their benefit* alone
that I wanted [this,]
Except also for the sake*
of those who believe in me
Through their [own] manifestation.
21. "So that they all become one,
Whereas you my father are in me and I in you,
so also they in Us become one,
So that the world* may believe
that you sent me.
22. "And I, the glory that you gave me,
I give to them,
To become one,
just as We are One.
23. "I in them and you in me,
so that they unite* into one.
And so that the world* shall know
that you sent me,
And that you love them
just as you loved me.
24. "Father, these that you have given me,
I am satisfied that they* are mine;
May they also be with me,
so they may witness*
The glory that is mine,
which you have given me,
That you loved me
before* the foundation* of the universe.
25. "You are my righteous Father,
and the world* does not know you,
But I have known you,
and they know that you have sent me.
26. "And you made them understand your name
and I declared* it,
So that the love with which you loved me
may be in them,
And so I [also] may be in them."

John Eighteen

1. These [things] Jesus said, and he left* together with his disciples for
the crossing of the creek of Cordon, by* which there was a garden,

2. But Judas the betrayer also knew that place, since so many times Jesus
gathered there with his disciples.*
3. Thus, this is how Judas procured* soldiers*, and from the high priests
and leading* Pharisees he procured emissaries, and came there with
torches, lamps and weapons.
4. But Jesus, knowing everything that was to befall him, came out
[suddenly] and said to them, "Whom do you want?"
5. They said to him, "Jesus the Nazarene*." He said to them, "I am I."*
But the betrayer Judas was also standing with them.
6. And as Jesus said to them that, "I am I," they went to pieces and
collapsed* on the ground.
7. And again Jesus asked them, "Whom do you want?" But they said,
"Jesus the Nazarene."
8. Jesus said to them, "I told you that I am I. And if it is me that you
want, let these [others] go[;]"
9. So [as] the manifestation may be fulfilled that said, that "These that
you gave me, I did not lose* any of them, not even one."
10. But Simon the Rock, had on him a sword, and he drew it and struck
the servant* of the leader of the high priests, and cut* off his right ear,
[and] the name of that servant was Malekh*.
11. And Jesus said to the Rock, "Put* the sword in its sheath. Shall I not
drink the cup that the Father has given me?"

12. And then the soldiers and the commanders* and the emissaries of the
Jews seized* Jesus and tied him up.
13. And they brought him before Annas* first, since he was a leader of
[the high] priests for that year.
14. But it was Caiaphas who guided* the Jews, recommending* that,
"One man should die on behalf of [all] the people."
15. But Simon the Rock and one of the other disciples went* after Jesus.
But that disciple was known to the leader of the [high] priests, and he
[thus] entered into the courtyard with Jesus.
16. But Simon stood outside the door and the other disciple, whom the
high priest knew, emerged and told the keeper of the gate and Simon was
allowed in.
17. But the young girl who guarded the door said to Simon, "Why, are
you also [one] of the disciples of the man here?" He said to her, "No."
18. And the servants and emissaries rose to start up a fire to warm
themselves, since they were cold. Simon also stood with them to warm
himself.*
19. But the high priest asked Jesus about his disciples and about his
teachings*.
20. Jesus told him, "I spoke about the obvious with the people,* and
taught in the synagogue and the temple all the time,* where all the Jews
gathered* and I did not speak secretly about anything.
21. "Why are you questioning me? Ask the ones who heard about what I
spoke among them. Behold, they know everything I said."
22. And as he said all these things, one of the emissaries who had stood
up, slapped* Jesus on the face and said to him, "Is this how you respond
to the head* of the [high] priests?"
23. Jesus replied and said to him, "If I spoke with evil [intent,] testify
against the evil, but if [I spoke] well, why did you strike me?"
24. But Annas sent Jesus [still] tied up to Caiaphas, leader of the high
priests.
25. And Simon the Rock stood and warmed himself. And they said to
him, "Why, are you not one of his disciples?" And he swore* and said,
"[That] cannot be!"
26. Said one of the servants* of the high priest*, a comrade of the one
whose ear Simon cut off, "Did I not see you with them in the garden?"
27. And again Simon swore, and in that very hour the rooster crowed.

28. But they brought Jesus from Caiaphas to the praetorium, and dawn
was breaking,* and they did not [dare*] enter to the praetorium[,] so as
not to break the fast*, [as] they were to eat the Passover [meal.]
29. But Pilate went* outside to them and told them, "What the devil do
you have against this man?"
30. They replied and said to him, "If he were not an evil-doer we would
not have delivered him to you."*
31. Pilate told them, "You are his accusers and [so] judge him according
to your Law." The Jews said to him, "We have no authority to kill
anyone*[,]"
32. So that the manifestation which Jesus declared* may be fulfilled, as
he made known by what death he was destined to die.
33. But Pilate entered the praetorium and called to Jesus and asked* him,
"You are the King of the Jews?"
34. Jesus told him, "You say this from yourself,* or [is it] others who
told you about me?"
35. Pilate said to him, "Why, am I a Jew? It was your own people and
the leading high priests who delivered* you to me; what have you done?"

36. Jesus told him, "My Kingdom is not of this* world.* If my Kingdom
were of* this world here, my attendants* would have fought for me so
that I would not be delivered to the Jews. But my Kingdom is not yet*
from here."
37. Pilate asked* him, "So you are a king?"* Jesus told him, "You are
saying that I am a King. I was born for this and for this I came to the
world*, [so as] to testify to the Truth. Whoever came from the Truth
hears my voice."
38. Pilate asked* him, "Who is the Truth?" and as he said this, he
emerged again to the Jews and told them, "I could not find even one
fault* with him.
39. "Since you have a feast, I can release one of you for the Passover.
Will you thus be satisfied that I release to you this king of the Jews?"
40. And they all cried out, "Not him,* except Barabbas*." But this
Barabbas happened to be a militant.

John Nineteen

1. Then Pilate tortured Jesus.
2. And the soldiers wove a wreath of thorns and crowned him with it,*

3. And they said, "Peace be [unto] you, King of the Jews!" And they
slapped his face*.
4. And Pilate emerged outside again and told them, "Here I am
throwing* him out to you, so that you may understand that I did not find
even one fault with him.*"
5. And Jesus emerged outside [with] the wreath of thorns and purple
[garments.] And Pilate told them, "Behold the Man!"
6. But as the high priests and the emissaries saw him, they cried out,
"Crucify him, crucify him!" Pilate said to them, "Then you go and nail
him [to the cross,] for I could not find fault* with him."
7. The Jews told him, "[But] we have our Law,* and according to our
Law he desired* death [when*] he made himself the Son of God."
8. Bus as Pilate heard of this manifestation, his soul collapsed.*
9. And he took* Jesus into the praetorium again and said to him, "Where
are you from?" But Jesus did not respond to him.
10. Pilate said to him, "[So] you will not talk to me? Do you not know
that I have the authority to release you and the authority to nail you [to
the cross]?"
11. Jesus told him, "You never had authority over me even once, if it
were not given to you from above. Because of it the one who delivered*
me into [your hands] is a far greater sinner than you.*"
12. And because of this Pilate* desired to release him. But the Jews cried
out that, "If you release this one, you are not related* to Caesar. For
whoever makes himself king, is rejecting Caesar.*"
13. As Pilate heard of this manifestation, he took* Jesus out. And [Pilate]
sat on the podium, at the place called the Stone* Pavement*; in Hebrew,
it is called the "Little Cave."
14. And it was the Friday of the Passover, and it was about the sixth
hour, and [Pilate] said to the Jews, "Here he is, your King!"*
15. But [the Jews] were crying out, "Remove* him, remove him, crucify
him, crucify him!" Pilate told them, "Nail your King [to the cross]?" The
high priests told him, "We have no king except for Caesar!"
16. Thus he delivered him to them to be nailed [to the cross.] And they
seized* Jesus and took* him out[,]
17. As he took up his cross to the place that is called "The Skull," but in
the Hebrew [dialect] which is called, "The Arena of
Truth-through-torture,"*
18. Where they nailed him [to the cross,] and with him two others, one
on this side and one on the other, and with Jesus in the middle*.
19. And even the tablet was written by Pilate and placed on the cross.
But it was written thus, "Here [is] Jesus the Victorious*, King of the
Jews."
20. And this page many of the Jews did read, since the place where Jesus
was nailed [to the cross] was near the city, and it was written in Hebrew,
Greek and Latin.*
21. And the high priests said to Pilate, "Do not write that he was King of
the Jews, except that he said that he was King of the Jews."
22. Pilate said, "I wrote what I wrote!"*
23. But the soldiers that nailed Jesus [to the cross,] took his new
garments* and divided* them [between] the four of them. One* to each
of the soldiers. But his robe*, which was not sown together, was woven
from above entirely.*
24. And they said one to the other*, "[Let us] not divide it, except [let us]
cast lots for it, [to see] whose lot it will be. And the Scripture was
fulfilled that said, that,

They divided my [new] garments
between themselves,
And over my robe*,
they cast lots."

This the soldiers did.
25. But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother's
sister, and Mary [the wife] of Cleopas and Mary Magdalene.
26. But when Jesus saw his mother and the disciple to whom he was
merciful in the past, (and) he said to his mother, "Woman, behold your
Son!"
27. And he said to that disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that
moment* that disciple took* her [away to be] with him.
28. After these [things] Jesus knew that everything became fulfilled*, and
[so] that the Scripture may be concluded*, he said, "I am thirsty."
29. And the plate was set that was full of vinegar. Then they soaked* a
sponge in* vinegar and set it on a hyssop and brought it near to his lips.

30. But as Jesus took the vinegar, he said, "Behold, it is fulfilled*." He
bowed his head and commended his Spirit.
31. The Jews, since it was Friday, said, "Do not leave these bodies on
their crosses, because of the coming of Sabbath. For it was a great day
that Sabbath day. And they wanted from Pilate that these crucified
[bodies have] their legs broken and [that] they be taken down.
32. And the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first one and the
second one that were crucified with [Jesus.]
33. And as they came to Jesus, they saw that he was dead a long time ago
and they did not break his legs.
34. Except one of the soldiers pierced* him in the side with a lance and
[there] emerged blood and water together*.
35. And whoever saw [it,] testified and their testimony is true and they
know that they tell the truth, so that you may also believe.
36. These [things] happened so that the Scripture may be fulfilled* that
said, that,

"Not one of his bones shall be broken."*

37. And also* another Scripture that said,

"Look who they picked on!"*

38. After [all] these [things took place,] Joseph, the one* from
Arimathea, requested from Pilate, since [Joseph] was a disciple of Jesus,
to take [down] the body of Jesus, and Pilate divested himself [of it] and
[so Joseph] came [over] and took the body of Jesus.
39. And there also came Nicodemus, the one* who had come before* to
Jesus during the night, and he brought with him a mixture of myrrh and
aloes, as much as one hundred liter.
40. And they took the body of Jesus, and wrapped him in cotton [strips]
and in incenses, according to Jewish burial custom.*
41. But there was in that place, where Jesus was crucified, a garden, and
in that garden, a new burial chamber*, wherein no one* had been yet
placed*.
42. And there they performed the burial ceremony for Jesus,* because
the Sabbath was fast approaching*, and because the tomb was near by.

him."

arranged*.
7. And the linen*, that was [tightly] bound over his head, was not with
the cotton [strips,] except that it was wrapped and placed* aside in one
place.*
8. Then the [other] disciple who came first to the burial site, also went in
[to see for himself,]* and seeing he believed.
9. For they did not yet know from Scriptures that it was predestined that
he would rise from the dead.
10. And those disciples went [back] again to their place.

11. But Mary stood by the tomb crying, and as she cried she stared* at
the tomb.
12. And she saw two angels [dressed] in white [robes] sitting, one at his
head and one at his feet., where the body of Jesus was consecrated*.
13. And they said to her, "Woman, why are you crying?" She told them,
"They have taken my Lord and I do not know where they have buried*
him."
14. This she said and withdrew back and she saw Jesus risen*, and she
did not know it was Jesus.
15. Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you crying? And whom do you
want?" But she thought* that it was the gardener. And she said to him,
"(My) Master, if you have taken him, tell me where you have laid* him
so I can go [and] find* him."
16. Jesus told her, "Mary." And she pulled* back and said to him in
Hebrew, "R'buli," that is saying "Educator."
17. Jesus told her, "Do not come near me, for I have not yet ascended to
my Father. Go to my brothers and tell them, I am ascending to my
Father and your Father, and to my God and your God."
18. Then Mary Magdalene came and [brought] hope* to the disciples that
she had [indeed] seen The* Lord and [of] the things that he had told her.

19. But as it was Sunday evening,* and the door was shut* down where
the disciples used to be, from fear* of the Jews, Jesus came [and] stood
between them and said to them, "Peace be with you!"
20. He said this and he showed them his hands and his chest and the
disciples were overjoyed to see The Lord.
21. Then he said to them again, "Peace be with you! Just as* my Father
sent me, I also send you."
22. And as he said this, he blew at them and told them, "Receive the Holy
Spirit!
23. "If you forgive somebody their sins, you will have truly forgiven
them; and if you receive forgiveness from somebody, you will have
truly received it."*
24. But Thomas, one of the Twelve, who was called The Twin, was not
with them as Jesus came.
25. And the disciples told him, "We have seen our Lord." But [Thomas]
told them, "If I do not see the scars* in his hands, and lay* my fingers
on him and place* my hand on his side, I will not believe it."
26. And after eight days the disciples were inside and Thomas [was] with
them. And Jesus came while they had [all] the doors shut down, [and] he
stood in the balance* and he said to them, "Peace be with you."
27. And he said to Thomas, "Come here [with] your finger and see my
hands and take* your hand and press* it into my side, and be not an
unbeliever, but a believer."
28. And Thomas replied and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"
29. Jesus said to him, "Now that you have seen me, you believe? Blessed
are they that do not see me and believe."

30. But there are many [more] miracles that Jesus performed before his
disciples, which are not written of in this Book.
31. But these that are written, [are] so that you believe that Jesus was the
Son of God, and whoever believes shall receive* in heaven Life to [the
end of] the universe.

two others from his disciples.
3. Simon the Rock told them, "I am going to catch* fish."* They said to
him, "We are coming too." And they went* and descended into the
vessel, and in that night they caught* nothing.
4. But as it became morning, Jesus stood over that sea, and the disciples
did not know that it was Jesus.
5. And Jesus said to them, "Children, what do you have to chew on?"
They said to him, "Nothing."*
6. He said to them, "Do your catching* from the right side of the vessel,
and you will find." And they threw [in their nets] and could not pull
them out from the multitude of fish that filled* them.
7. And the disciple to whom Jesus was merciful told Simon the Rock,
"This is Our Lord!" But as Simon heard that it was The Lord, he
wrapped his robe around his back, since he was athletic, and he dived*
into the sea so as to come to Jesus.
8. The other disciples stayed* in the vessel. For they were [indeed] not
very far from land, except for a couple hundred arm lengths. And they
pulled in the catch of fish.
9. But as they came also ashore,* they saw charcoal [all] stacked up,* and
the fish placed* over them, and bread.
10. And Jesus said to them, "Bring here some of the fish that you have
just caught."
11. And Simon the Rock came up pulling the catch on to land, full of
large fish, one hundred and fifty-three, and with all that weight those
nets* did not come apart*.
12. And Jesus said to them, "Sit and [eat] breakfast."* But not one* of
them actually* asked him who he was, since they knew it was The Lord.
13. But Jesus came close and took the bread and the fish and gave it to
them.
14. This is the third time* Jesus was seen by his disciples, [after] he rose
from the dead*.

15. As they ate breakfast*, Jesus said to Simon the Rock, "Simon, son of
the Dove*, do you have more compassion for me than the others?"* He
said, "Yes [indeed,] my Lord, you know that I have [great] affection* for
you." Jesus said to him, "Shepherd my rams."
16. [Jesus] said to him again a second time*, "Simon, son of the Dove, do
you have compassion for me?" He said, "Yes [indeed,] my Lord, you
know that I have [great] affection for you." Jesus said to him, "Shepherd
my sheep."
17. [Jesus] said again to him a third time*, "Simon, son of the Dove, do
you have compassion for me?" And it affected the Rock that he told him
three times* that, "Do you have compassion for me?" And he said to
him, "My Lord, you command* everything, you know that I have great
affection for you." Jesus told him, "Shepherd my ewes*.
18. "Amen, amen, I am telling you, when you were a boy, you used to
gird your back yourself and go about as you pleased. But when you get
old, you will stretch out your hands and others will gird your back for
you and take you where you are not pleased to go."
19. But [Jesus] said this to show by what death it was destined for [Simon
the Rock] to glorify God. And as he said these [things,] he told him,
"Follow me."
20. And Simon the Rock turned and saw the disciple to whom Jesus was
merciful coming after them, the one who begged* Jesus at the Supper
and said, "My Lord, who will betray you?"
21. But as The Rock saw him, he said to Jesus, "My Lord, where is he
going?"*
22. Jesus told him, "If it pleases* me to hold this one until I come, what
is it to you?* You follow me."
23. And the word* was out among the brothers, that this disciple would
not die. But Jesus had not [meant] that he would not die, except that, "If
it pleases me that he would remain* here until I come, what is it to you?"

24. That disciple that testified to all these, who also wrote these [things]
and we know that his testimony was true.
25. But there were also a great many things that Jesus did, that if they
were written of one by one, not even the whole universe, I expect, would
hold them all.*
