Reading and Commentary by Vic Alexander

From the Ancient Aramaic Scriptures

John 14

1. “Do not lose heart,* believe in Allaha, and in me believe. 2. “My Father's abodes are great [enough.] And if not, I will make them so,* whence I go to provide you a country. 3. “And if I go to provide you a country, I will come back again to settle you with me, that where I come, [then*] you too can be. 4. “And where I go to, you know [where that is,] and the way, you know that [too.]” 5. Thomas said to him, “[Our] Maryah, we do not know where you are going and how can we know where is the way?” 6. Eashoa said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the Life. No one* comes to my Father except through me. 7. “If you know me, you also know my Father. And from now on you know Him and you see Him.” 8. Philip said to him, “[Our] Maryah, [let] us see the Father and convince* us.” 9. Eashoa said to him, “Here I have been with you all this time* and you did not know me, Philipa*, whoever sees me, sees the Father, and how then can you say, 'Show us the Father?' 10. “Do you not believe that I am in my Father and my Father is in me? And these words that I speak, I do not speak of myself. The Father who dwells in me, He performs these works. 11. “Believe [it] that I am in my Father, and my Father is in me; and if not, believe [then] in the works. 12. “Amen, amen, I am telling you, that whoever believes in me, these works that I do, they will also do; and that greater than these they will do, [now] that I go to the Father. 13. “And whatever you ask through my name, I will do for you, so that the Father is glorified through his Son. 14. “And if you ask me in my name, I will do it. 15. “If you love* me, observe my commandments. 16. “And I will request it of my Father and another Advocate he will send you, who will be with you forever*. 17. “The Spirit of Truth*, (whom) the world* could not receive because they could not see or know Him. But you know Him, for He lives among you and through you is manifested. 18. “I will not leave you orphaned. For I will return* to you soon*. 19. “And the world* will not see me, but you will. That I live, also you shall live. 20. “In that Day you will understand*, that I am in my Father and you, you are in me and I in you. 21. “Whoever have my commandments in them, and observe them, they are the ones who love me. The ones that are merciful [thus,] shall receive mercy from my Father, and I shall [shed my grace upon]* them and show myself to them.” 22. Judah--not Iscariot--said to him, “My Maryah, to whom you will show yourself and not to the world*?” 23. Eashoa replied and told him, “Whoever is gracious* to me, should [guard, and adhere to,]* my manifestation, and my Father shall bless* them, and to them We shall come, and an abode with them We* shall make*. 24. “But those who are not gracious to me, do not recognize* my manifestation, and the manifestation that you adhere* to was not mine, except of the Father who sent me. 25. “These [things] I made known* to you since I came to you. 26. “However, the Advocate Holy Spirit, that my Father shall send in my name, He* will teach you everything, and He will endow* you with everything I have told you. 27. “I grant* you peace, the peace which is mine I give you. Not as the world* wishes you peace, that I give it to you. Do not lose heart and [do not] give in.* 28. “You have heard that I have told you that I shall go and [that] I shall come [back] to you. If you are sympathetic* to me, you would be happy that I was going to my Father, that my Father who is great is with me.* 29. “And now I am telling you before it happens,* so that whatever happens, you may believe. 30. “From now on I will not speak with you at length*. For the leader of the world* is coming, and he has nothing to do with me.* 31. “Except that the world should learn that I love my Father,* and however that my Father commands* me, thus I do. Get up, let us go from here.”
