Hebrews 9
1. The first Covenant, however, had in it the instructions for service and a
universal holy sanctuary.*
2. For the first tabernacle had in it the menorah, the consecration table and
the sacrificial bread, and it was called the holy Sanctuary.*
3. The inner chamber, inside the two-sided entrance,* was called the holy of
holies,
4. And there was in it the vessel of the incense,* made of gold and the
Ark of the Covenant, which was all covered* with gold, and there was the
vessel of gold that contained the manna and the staff of Aaron which had
sprouted, and there was the Tablets of the Covenant,
5. And above it there were the cherubim of glory that foreshadowed the
ultimate Sacrifice. For it was not then the season, however, to speak of each
one of these as to how they would be promulgated.
6. And to the outer tabernacle there entered king priests in every season* to
offer their services,
7. To the tabernacle within it, however, the leading king priest entered alone
once a year, to offer the sacrifice of blood on his own behalf and on the
behalf of the nation's foolishnesses.*
8. With this then the holy Spirit was making it known that the way of the
saints was not yet revealed for many seasons while the tabernacle stood there.
9. And this was a mystery* in the season of the offerings and sacrifices, as
they could not fathom the mind of the One who would be their Offering,*
10. Except they understood only about eating and drinking,* and regarding the
ceremonial washings and baptisms they did very well indeed -- these that were
the commandments consecrated with respect to the flesh, until there came the
season of fulfillment.
11. However, when the Messiah came, it was by the oath of Kingly Priesthood that He
was affirmed and He was the Lord and Master of the Tabernacle that was neither
made with hands, nor was of this creation.
12. Nor did He enter with the blood of birds and four-legged creatures, except
He entered with his own blood, one season, into the holy of holies, and He
achieved Salvation for the universe.
13. For if the blood of the birds and four-legged creatures and their ashes
was sufficient for those who were defiled and would sanctify them in the
cleansing of their flesh,
14. How much more the blood of the Messiah -- with His eternal Spirit that He
offered himself unblemished for God -- would that then cleanse our soul from
perishable works,* [how much more] would that fulfill the service to the
Living God.
15. Because of that He is the Reconciler of the New Covenant, who is the
Savior of those who entered into the First Covenant and inherited the Kingdom,
those who were called to inherit the eternal life.*
16. For where there is a covenant, it is through death that the adherent is
resurrected.
17. It is regarding the dead person only that the truth is confirmed, because
while that person is alive, their works are of no consequence.
18. That is why from the beginning without blood nothing was confirmed.
19. For when Moses gave the nation all the Commandments, according to the Law
Moses sprinkled the blood of animals, using the crimson-marked wool and
hyssop, over the Scriptures and over the entire nation,
20. And he told them, that this is the blood of the Covenant, with which I am
commanding from God.
21. Also over the Tabernacle and all the vessels of service of that blood, he
sprinkled it.
22. Because everything is cleansed by blood in the Law, and without the
shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
23. For it is necessary that these things are cleansed in the likeness of what
is heavenly. Those things, however, that are of heaven are of greater service
than these.
24. For neither did the Messiah enter into a holy place that was built by hands,
that is in the likeness of the true one, except He entered heaven itself so as
to be seen in the visage of God, for our sake.
25. Nor did He offer Himself many seasons as did the leading king priests,
entering every year into the holy place with the blood that was not their own.
26. And if otherwise, He would have had to suffer the Passion many seasons
since the beginning of the universe. Now, however, He offered Himself only one
time* at the end of the universe in the Sacrifice that annihilates sin.
27. And whereas He consecrated for human beings to die one season, and after
their death, one judgment,
28. Likewise also the Messiah offered Himself one season, through His [human]
Essence He obliterated the sins of many, so as in the second season those who
held onto Him would see themselves Alive without their sins.
