Capitalism Run Amuck
Millions of people buy houses in America on credit. The banks loan them money. They make a small down payment and own a house. Actually, it's the bank that owns the house, so the lucky homeowners with the necessary credit end up working for the bank for the rest of their lives. And it's not that they just work for the banks, they also become the target for the politicians who represent them in Congress. The homeowners who are not only the mortgage payers, they are the taxpayers who support the US government and provide for the defense of their their country, or in other words, for the defense of the banks' properties.
The irony of it is that, no sooner do the homeowners get the keys to their houses than they start receiving credit cards from credit card companies: "Your credit is good; you can borrow on your house and pay the same low interest as on your mortgage payments." So even the albatross that has been hung on your head becomes another drain on your earnings and eventually eats up all the equity in your home. What is this supposed to be, the blessings of Capitalism? Now you are a homeowner, be prepared to lose your house. And who issues these credit cards? The banks -- who are no better than the credit card companies.
When asked about paying taxes, Eashoa (Jesus) reluctantly said, "Pay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar." That didn't mean He was giving His blessing to the oppressors of His people.
As Christians, we shouldn't be buying houses we can't afford, with money that we don't have. We should save and buy our homes with cash. Then we only have to come up with property taxes and maintenance. We should never borrow on our own homes and pay credit card interests.
Capitalism doesn't mean being stupid. Capital is what you save, not what you borrow. Be your own capitalist. Capitalize on your own income and the Lord will bless you with more.
